INSTALLATION PROBLEMS

Are you having trouble installing Endnote to your CCHMC desktop or laptop? Please call IS (6-4100) for help. CCHMC does not have a license that allows our users to install Endnote on a personal computer. Create an Endnote Online account on campus* to use Endnote from any location for 2 year access. When your license is ready to expire simply come go to Endnote (the desktop version) to update/activate your account and get 2 more years.

*You must use a campus desktop or you will only get Endnote Basic, not the full version of the online program.

Import Tab Delimited Files (Excel sheets)

CREATE AN EXCEL SHEET USING AN ENDNOTE LIBRARY

If you have an Endnote library and need to put it in an Excel spreadsheet with clickable hyperlinks you follow these instructions.

EXPORT ENDNOTE INTO A TEXT FILE

  • Download the Output Style (located at the bottom of this box) called Excel by clicking on the Endnote Style icon.
  • When this opens in Endnote save the style by going to File>Save as
    You can keep the name (Exel copy) or change it to a new name
    Close the dialog box by clicking on the small grey X on the top right hand side
  • In your Endnote library highlight one reference, then select all of them (Edit>Select all or CTL+A)
  • Go to File>Export. In the next screen make sure these   
    File Name is automatically called the name of your Endnote library. You can change this if you would like.
    Save as Type choose Text File.
    Output style choose Excel copy (or whatever you named it). If you do not see the file choose Select another style (at the top of the list, find it in the list, highlight it and click Ok.
  • Click Save. Make sure to save it to your desktop or in a place that is easily found.

 IMPORT INTO EXCEL SPREADSHEET

  •  Open a blank Excel file
  •  Import the text file that you created into Excel by going to File-Open and choosing your library txt file that you saved. The Text Import Wizard will open

    Step 1 Keep the settings on Delimited and click Next



    Step 2 Keep the setting under Delimiters with a check next to Tab and click Next



    Step 3 Click Finish

MAKE HYPERLINKS CLICKABLE

In your Excel document:

  • Go to the Excel ribbon (the very top of the sheet), click the arrow to, choose More commands, use the arrow and click on All Commands, choose Cell Styles, then Add to add it to the Excel ribbon and click Ok.
  • Go back to the Home tab
  • Highlight the entire column you want to show as hyperlinks.
  • Click on on the Cell Styles icon in Excel ribbon at the top and choose Hyperlink and your entire row will show up as hyperlinks.

  • Go to File>Save as and  in Save as Type  choose Excel Workbook (.xlsx)
